Day 1 - Tuesday 16 July - We leave Sydney

D Day has arrived. All packed and doing the last few things around the house before we are picked up to go to Coolangatta airport. Patch knows something is going on and has climbed into Alison's suitcase once.

Checked the Carnival Spirit web cam and the ship was docked in Sydney on time this morning.

Safely and efficiently delivered to Coolangatta by our good Friend Wendy G. Suitcases passed the weight limit and we are through security with Alison being checked for explosives! Starting to get in the holiday mood.

Good flight to Sydney on Virgin. Had an aisle seat each with no one sitting in the centre seats beside us. Alison however had to pretend to sleep to avoid the ongoing conversation with the man beside her!

Short wait for airport train to Circular Quay and then walked our luggage down to the OPT (Overseas Passenger Terminal) for drop off and headed back into the Quay end of the city to buy Pepsi Next Buddy bottles to bring on board. Alas no luck at Woolworths so we are going pretty well soda free.

Quick boarding and late lunch in the Buffet restaurant with free and very sweet lemon squash to drink.

We missed out on anytime dining so will be dining at 7.45pm each night with another two couples at our table. One of the couples is from up the road in Ormeau.

Dinner tonight was enjoyable and we started our first bottle of wine - will make it last at least two dinners. The oddest part of the meal was Philip being served a little side of macaroni cheese with his grilled sea bream. Don't know what the Masterchef judges would say!

Introductory show with the Cruise Director Stu in the Pharoah Lounge and then we ahve retired to our cabin for a good night's sleep. Ketut our cabin steward had our bed turned down, chocolates and a cute seal towel animal. We didn't get a towel animal once on our Princess cruise!

With the satellite internet connection we are not sure if we will get to upload too many photos to accompany the blog entries. Apologies to the visual ones out there!
